This workshop will focus on mathematical reasoning and problem solving with the emphasis on using the handheld TI Inspire CX-II calculator as a tool. It will provide both algebraic review and enrichment for students entering Algebra 2, Precalculus, and Calculus. The workshop will cover strategies for saving work, utilizing all applications, and working through multiple representations with Algebraic concepts. Whether getting “back up to speed” in algebra before entering an Algebra 2 or PreCalculus course, or refining your exposure or familiarity with a TI-Nspire calculator as a learning tool, this 1-week workshop will benefit both problem solving and confidence in utilizing the powerful handheld device. This handheld technology is permissible on major standardized tests, including the PSAT, SAT, ACT, SAT Subject Tests, and AP exams. The purchase of the handheld calculator is highly recommended if the student plans to take any of the standardized tests for college admission. Hawken students may be able to borrow a handheld calculator as part of this course.

While emphasis will be on use of the handheld calculator, students may additionally use their tablet or laptop if it possesses the same software. Hawken students already have this software loaded onto their tablets. Non-Hawken students will receive a link to a Free Trial for their use during the course.

This workshop serves as a complement for students planning to enroll in our SAT/ACT Prep course but is not required.
