Named after American cartoonist and inventor Rube Goldberg (1883–1970), a Rube Goldberg machine is a contraption, invention, device, or apparatus that is deliberately over-engineered to perform a simple task in a complicated fashion, generally including a chain reaction. During this week-long adventure into the zany world of Rube Goldberg, campers will design and build the most elaborate and creative contraptions using all kinds of recycled and repurposed materials. This is an exciting camp for those who love science and art! Check out this video of a Rube Goldberg-inspired contraption to get a better idea of the endless possibilities: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieQSiDnOhzY.

Calling all designers, tinkerers, and creative campers! Makerspace Camp will allow students to explore their ideas, interests, and inventions using tools and techniques found in a digital fabrication lab (FabLab). Students will first learn the principles of creativity, design thinking, and rapid prototyping to begin to generate many ideas for new products and solutions important to them. We will then explore engineering and design techniques using computer-assisted design (CAD) software and fabrication equipment like 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC milling, and electronics and also build with hand and power tools. Makers will document their process throughout the week, which will culminate with a designer showcase for parents on our final afternoon. Learn how to capture your creativity and make anything in this fun and inventive week.
